After I worked up an appetite with a run on Saturday morning, we met up with Jessica at Origin for a glorious brunch. Origin has been getting great reviews and it's no wonder why. The creative brunch menu featured amazing flavour combinations (duck confit French toast??) and extremely well executed classics (deviled eggs with crispy bacon).
How beautiful are these fries?? Chorizo, cheese, salt and aioli - what every breakfast needs. |

After a long day, Hubby and I grabbed a spot on a patio for a cold beer. |
I tried to work off brunch with an afternoon of shopping on Bloor street, and later on Hubby and I headed out for dinner at the much buzzed-about Buca. Among the lounges and nightclubs on King West, Buca serves up beautiful Italian fare including an array of house-cured meats, flavourful cheeses, and things-you-never-thought-about-frying (gnocchi and lard! olives stuffed with sausage! pigs ears!). We got a seat in the cozy wine bar area.
The standout was definitely the charcuterie plate we started off with, along with the aforementioned fried olives. Our mains (a beautiful mushroom pizza and gnocchi) were not exactly mind blowing but definitely satisfying:
It wasn't allll eating on our weekend. On Sunday we headed out to High Park with Doggie in tow so she could make some new friends. With the trees in full bloom and the super green grass, even a little bit of rain didn't spoil the morning.
